WHY DO PEOPLE FOLLOW EVANGELISTS AND GURUS ?

The thief who destroyed my family, Dawn McSweeney, is employed as a yoga guru by Happy Tree Yoga in Montreal, Quebec. I have been reporting the crimes of Dawn McSweeney openly for many years. I can't understand why people follow gurus, even when their wrongs have been revealed. How can people give over their money and their minds to leaders whose actions have done so much harm?

I decided to review history - to research the question of why people follow evangelists and gurus without question, even when their misdeeds are well known. Here is what I found.

There was Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker

American televangelist Tammy Messner was born on March 7, 1942, in International Falls, Minnesota. She married fellow devout Christian Jim Bakker, and together they hosted television ministry shows in the 1960s and '70s, including The 700 Club and the Praise the Lord Club. In 1980, scandal ensued when Jim Bakker was caught having an affair with his church secretary, Jessica Hahn. Numerous other affairs surfaced, and the Bakkers fell from grace. In 1989,

Jim Bakker was convicted of fraud and conspiracy. Around the same time, Tammy filed for divorce, which was finalized in 1992.

AND THERE WAS JIM JONES 

Jim Jones, byname of James Warren Jones    (born May 13, 1931, near Lynn, Ind., U.S.—died Nov. 18, 1978, Jonestown, Guyana), American cult leader who promised his followers a utopia in the jungles of South America after proclaiming himself messiah of the Peoples Temple, a San Francisco-based evangelist group. He ultimately led his followers into a mass suicide, which came to be known as the Jonestown Massacre (Nov. 18, 1978).

                             

In the 1950s and '60s in Indianapolis, Ind., Jones gained a reputation as a charismatic churchman, and, after moving his headquarters to northern California in 1965 (first settling near Ukiah and then in San Francisco in 1971), he apparently became obsessed with the exercise of power. In the face of mounting accusations by journalists and defectors from the cult that he was illegally diverting the income of cult members to his own use, Jones and hundreds of his followers emigrated to Guyana and set up an agricultural commune called Jonestown (1977). As ruler of the sect, Jones confiscated passports and millions of dollars and manipulated his followers with threats of blackmail, beatings, and probable death. He also staged bizarre rehearsals for a ritual mass suicide.

On Nov. 14, 1978, U.S. Rep. Leo Ryan of California arrived in Guyana with a group of newsmen and relatives of cultists to conduct an unofficial investigation of alleged abuses. Four days later, as Ryan's party and 14 defectors from the cult prepared to leave from an airstrip near Jonestown, Jones ordered the group assassinated. When he learned that only Ryan and four others (including three newsmen) had been killed and that those that had escaped might bring in authorities, Jones activated his suicide plan. On November 18, he commanded his followers to drink cyanide-adulterated punch, an order that the vast majority of them passively and inexplicably obeyed. Jones himself died of a gunshot wound in the head, possibly self-inflicted. Guyanese troops reached Jonestown the next day, and the death toll of cultists was eventually placed at 913 (including 276 children).

K-9 Officer recognizes K-9 Officer Bodi whose end of watch was this past Sunday. In more than seven years with the Colorado Police Department, Bodi, an 11-year-old Belgian malinois went on 509 deployments, helped locate 49 suspects and assisted with 119 arrests.

Bodi joined the department in February 2003 and served his time with Officer Troy Rosenoff. During his time, Bodi helped sniff out evidence from numerous crime scenes including clothing, guns and knives.

In 2009, Bodi was deployed with a SWAT team to search for an armed felon who had barricaded himself inside a building. Bodi led officers into the building after negotiations failed, and the suspect was arrested after Bodi found him hiding in a bathroom. The dog helped drag the man - who weighted 240 pounds - into the hallway.

In 2010, Bodi helped officers arrest eight men who were armed and suspected of robbery. The suspects were accused of several robberies throughout the county and allegedly shot at people during one of the robberies. Bodi was called in to search for two of the suspects, armed with a shotgun, who led officers on a short foot chase. A short time later, Bodi located officers to the pair.

And if I die before everything is returned to me and to my father's heirs, I trust my friends and my readers around the world will pick up this case and pursue it until everything Dawn McSweeney and her accomplices stole from us is returned to my heirs and to my father's heirs. MY SISTER DEBBIE, MOTHER OF THE THIEF, DAWN MCSWEENEY, IS THE MOST TRAGIC VICTIM

 

On October 7, 1996, at 4995 Prince of Wales, NDG, Montreal, Dawn McSweeney robbed me of my life's possessions - with the help of a Montreal Police officer.

 

Since that day, the Montreal Police have repeatedly refused to take any legal action against the thief and they will make no effort to recover all the precious valuables she stole.

Because the Montreal Police refused to take any action against Dawn McSweeney and her accomplices, the thieves went on to remove my aged mother from our family home and keep her in total isolation for a decade. The Montreal Police refused again and again to investigate.

 

Since the police were doing nothing to stop the criminals, they went on to make a false will in my mother's name when she was about 92 years old.

 

My father's will leaves his home and his life's savings to all his children and grandchildren, each specifically named in his will. The estate was to be divided equally among all of us.

 

My father died in 2000. My mother, in 2007.

 

The thieves removed all of the children and grandchildren from the will and gave all of  my father's estate to Debbie McSweeney and Dawn McSweeney. Kenneth Gregoire Prud'homme made himself the "liquidator" of my father's estate. This man I do not know and who never met my father stole everything from my entire family.

 

My naive sister, Debbie, has been the patsy of Dawn's father, Ed McSweeney and then this stranger named Prud'homme. The Montreal Police still refuse to take any action against this den of thieves.

 

More than 72,000 people around the world have read my detailed reports of these crimes. And yet, to this day, the criminals are still free to enjoy everything they stole from my parents, from me, from my siblings and from their children.

FIGHTING CANCER AND FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE - MY LAST WILL - PHYLLIS CARTER

 

I don't want money. I don't want anyone to cook for me. I don't want anyone to do my laundry. I don't want anyone to bathe me. All I want is that good people everywhere fight to bring me justice.

 

I am fighting for my life. I don't know what the future will bring. My body is very weak now. My hands and feet are swollen and tender from my medication and I can hardly walk. But  I am still strong in spirit.

 

At the same time, I am fighting for the justice denied me since I was attacked and robbed in my home in Montreal - with the help of a Montreal Police officer.

 

When I am no longer able to continue my struggle for justice, I ask people around the world who care about me, who care about justice, to pick up my sword of truth and continue my battle for justice.

 

If I die before justice is done, I hope my friends will continue to fight for the return of everything Dawn McSweeney stole from me and from my family - with the help of those she calls her "partners in crime" - including the Montreal Policeman who helped her rob me.
